Institutional visits

February 3, 2023. The president of Iphan, Leandro Grass, toured several sectors of the palace, including some archaeological monitoring areas. The technical and institutional visit was accompanied by members of the Executive Committee of the Project Museu Nacional Vive and the Museum’s direction.

On February 6, the Minister of Education, Camilo Santana, got to know the Project Museu Nacional Vive up close, by visiting the ongoing works at the Research and Teaching Campus and Paço de São Cristóvão.

Members of the International Council of Museums (ICOM) and UNESCO Brazil visited the ongoing works at Paço de São Cristóvão on February 13.

Catalog of rare publications

On April 13th, the Museu Nacional/UFRJ Catalog of Rare Publications was launched. The work is of great importance for the dissemination and security of the collection of rare publications at the Central Library of the Museu Nacional, and it is also available in e-book format, in the UFRJ institutional repository, the PANTHEON.

Campus construction works advance

June 2023. Constructions works at the Research and Teaching Campus advances with the installation of the Central Conservation and Restoration Laboratory (LCCR). A school visitation center has been built and will be opened. Construction of the modules for research departments is in final phase.

205th anniversary of the Museu Nacional/UFRJ

On June 4, a major event at Quinta da Boa Vista park celebrated the 205th anniversary of the Museu Nacional/UFRJ with the community. The free program offered various educational and scientific dissemination activities, cultural presentations and a special edition of the Junta Local gastronomic fair. Watch the video HERE.

Reconstruction works at blocks 02 and 03

The reconstruction works are advancing to blocks 02 and 03 of the Palace, covering services such as protection of elements that resisted to the fire, protection of excavations and archaeological surveys, construction and waterproofing of roof slabs, regeneration of all remaining masonry.

Iphan approves preliminary architectural project

On June 29, Iphan expressed a favorable opinion on the Preliminary Restoration and Architecture of the Paço de São Cristóvão, the headquarters of the Museu Nacional/UFRJ. The document records agreement with the general concept of the project and the institution's willingness to continue collaborating with the development of the executive project for interventions in the palace and its surroundings.

Community of São Cristóvão visits the palace

On August 31, representatives of cultural, educational, sports and tourist institutions in the São Cristóvão neighborhood got to know up close the restoration work at the headquarters of the Museu Nacional/UFRJ. The special visit strengthened the dialogue between the Museum's management, the partners of the Museu Nacional Vive Project and the community, pointing to the planning of integrated activities in the territory.

Museu Nacional Vive Festival 2023

In order to mark five years of works to rebuild the Museu Nacional/UFRJ, the institution and partners of the Project Museu Nacional Vive held another edition of the Museu Nacional Vive Festival. The event took place on Sunday, September 3rd, with science, culture, debates and gastronomy activities.
