The Museu Nacional/UFRJ and the Goethe-Institut Rio de Janeiro developed the cultural action "What do you dream for the Museu Nacional?". The selected artistic works were displayed on the walls of the work at Paço de São Cristóvão, highlighting themes such as the importance of science in everyday life, what unites us and what differentiates us socially, geodiversity and biodiversity.

In partnership with the Goethe-Institut, the Museu Nacional/UFRJ held the event “Museums in Dialogue: Cooperation and Connections with Society - A platform for dialogue between experts”, which brought together centuries-old institutions and specialists from museums in South America and Europe, on June 3rd and 4th, 2021.

Celebrating the 204th anniversary of the Museu Nacional/UFRJ, the City of Arts (Rio de Janeiro) hosted, on June 6, the exhibition “What whale is this?”, with a 15.7 meter long sperm whale skeleton . The exhibition was sponsored by the German Government and supported by FUNBIO and the City of Rio de Janeiro.

The Architecture and Restoration draft project is sent to IPHAN, following international guidelines related to historical heritage preservation, valorization of memory, and accessibility.

To celebrate the 409th anniversary of Madureira, the Project Museu Nacional Vive and Rio de Janeiro City Hall launch the exhibition “Luzia e Berthasaura em Madureira,” on view until September 2022.

On November 25, the Museu Nacional/UFRJ sealed its first time capsule in front of the Paço de São Cristóvão. Produced by the National Institute of Technology (INT), a partner of the MN, the capsule contains more than 100 items. Among them, letters from authorities, newspapers, documents, videos, fragments of coverings from the Palace of São Cristóvão, drawings by public school students, a tooth from a sperm whale, a covid kit, among other objects and souvenirs. The opening of the capsule is scheduled for 2072.
